The Middle Creek Mustangs's and the Apex Friendship Patriots's match on Tuesday was close at halftime, but the Middle Creek Mustangs turned on the heat in the second half with 42 points. Middle Creek blew past the Patriots 61-35. Winning may never get old, but Middle Creek sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Middle Creek to victory were Alysia Pergerson and Joi Pergerson. Pergerson scored 13 points along with eight steals, while Pergerson scored 17 points along with two steals. Pergerson is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sarah Furst, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Apex Friendship's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Kiger, who scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Walls, who scored four points.
Middle Creek pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Apex Friendship, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Middle Creek will head out on the road to square off against the Imps at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cary will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Mustangs are ranked 51st). As for Apex Friendship, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.
