The First Assembly Christian Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Houston Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. First Assembly Christian is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, First Assembly Christian was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to White Station. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as First Assembly Christian came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while White Station is ranked 191st).
Despite the defeat, First Assembly Christian saw an underclassman step up: Danae Kennedy shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kennedy is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Marlena Davis was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Houston has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 25 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 68-29 victory over Webster County on the road. With Houston ahead 38-16 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Anna lee Avery was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenzie Percoski, who scored 12 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Memphis Home Education Association's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while First Assembly Christian's loss dropped theirs to 3-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: First Assembly Christian have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Houston, though, as they've been averaging only 5.3 per game. Given First Assembly Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Houston will need to find a way to close that gap.
