Athens proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 22) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Deshler Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since April 3, 2025.

The win got Athens back to even at 2-2. As for Deshler, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Athens will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Madison County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Deshler, they will face off against Florence at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
