Sumner won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by St. Helena College and Career Academy 7-6. Having pegged this as anyone's game, the MaxPreps state rankings were right on the nose.
Sumner got off to a sluggish start, posting 0 total points in the first half. That left them at a 0-6 disadvantage. In the second half, however, Sumner's defense made a stand and allowed a meager 0 points. This was the first game for both teams, giving Sumner a 1-0 record and starting St. Helena College and Career Academy off at 0-1.
Sumner are packing up and heading on the road for the first time this season. They face off against Kentwood next week at 7:00 PM. St. Helena College and Career Academy will be defending their home turf for the first time next week when they go up against East Feliciana at 7:00 PM.
