Northwood is 8-2 against Chapel Hill since February of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The two teams will face off at 12:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northwood took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They breezed by Jordan-Matthews to the tune of 61-16. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 51.6 points per game.
Northwood relied on the efforts of Shaylah Glover, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards, and Mikaylah Glover, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Shaylah has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Noelle Whitaker, who posted seven points and three steals.
Northwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill entered their tilt with Carrboro on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by a 54-32 margin over the Jaguars. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Tigers just coasted through the last quarter.
Chapel Hill's win came from a few key players Northwood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dezariyah Clark, who put up 13 points and eight steals. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Rihanna Gregory was another key player, putting up eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Northwood pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.4 points. As for Chapel Hill, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northwood has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Northwood strolled past Chapel Hill when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 45-31. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Chapel Hill's Laynie Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for Northwood to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
