The Sparta Spartans pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arcadia. Sparta was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Arcadia apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Sparta's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elexa Jones, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Jones continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Tripp, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Sparta has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Arcadia, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will take on La Crosse Central at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. La Crosse Central is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Arcadia, they will play host again and welcome Westby, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westby is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
