On Saturday, the Morrill Lions's game was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Hay Springs with points to spare, taking the game 57-41. For Morrill, this counts as revenge for the 61-47 defeat Hay Springs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Morrill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Green out in front who scored 15 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Green scored 15 or more points. Pittman Ashwin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hay Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gage Mintken. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with four blocks and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Young, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Morrill has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Hay Springs, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-3.
Morrill will be playing in front of their home fans against Lingle-Fort Laramie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lingle-Fort Laramie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Morrill likes a good challenge. Hay Springs' road trip will continue as they head out to face Sioux County on January 25th. Sioux County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
