The Dougherty Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Carver Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Dougherty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Dougherty beat Thomasville 53-49. Given Dougherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Thomasville is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaleke Singletary-Jinks was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Traevon Williams, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Carver's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. The contest between them and Monroe wasn't particularly close, with Carver falling 67-53. Carver has struggled against Monroe recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Carver saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tony Montgomery, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Montgomery is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jakobe Caslin, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Dougherty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Carver, their loss dropped their record down to 19-3.
Dougherty skirted past Carver 64-61 when the teams last played back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Montgomery, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
