James Buchanan hasn't had much luck against Greencastle-Antrim recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rockets will challenge the Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m.
Thursday just wasn't the day for James Buchanan's offense. They came up short against Northern York on Thursday, falling 10-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Rockets were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Greencastle-Antrim had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Greyhounds as they made off with a 15-2 victory. Considering the Blue Devils have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kiersten Swain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Caroline Logsdon was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kindal Rice, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Greencastle-Antrim kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
This is the second loss in a row for James Buchanan and nudges their season record down to 6-5. As for Greencastle-Antrim, their record now sits at 12-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. James Buchanan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Greencastle-Antrim struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
James Buchanan might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from Greencastle-Antrim in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
