Lakeland have had to suffer through a 4-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Western Branch with a sharp 37-7 win. Lakeland were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Lakeland got off to a slow start in their last-week match, but they had no such trouble against Western Branch and cruised to a 24-point first half. Western Branch wasn't quite able to keep up, scoring 7 to make it 24-7 heading into the break. The Lakeland defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the game. The victory bumped Lakeland's record up to 1-4. Western Branch are still searching for that first win as they fell to 0-5.
Lakeland will stay at home next week against Deep Creek at 7:00 PM. Deep Creek took a loss in their last contest and are no doubt out to reverse Lakeland's good fortune. As for Western Branch, they will face off against Grassfield.
