The Hartland Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Canton by a score of 47-44. While losing is never fun, Hartland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Canton is ranked 34th).
Canton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devon Pettus led the charge by scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Alexander Persinger, who scored 12 points.
Hartland's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Canton, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hartland will take on Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canton, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Salem at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Salem is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
