After losing to the Bristol Panthers the last time they met, the Champion Golden Flashes decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Champion strolled past Bristol with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 52-36. Given Champion's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Bristol is ranked 644th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Champion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabella Meyer, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Meyer has scored at least 25% of Champion's points. Addie Warzala was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
When it comes to explaining why Bristol lost, one person who can't be blamed is Briauna Klingensmith. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The match was Klingensmith's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Ernst, who scored seven points.
Champion's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Bristol, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Champion's road trip will continue as they head out to face Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on January 4th. Liberty is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Bristol, they will head out on the road to face off against Harding at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Harding focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday.
