Manzano made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,093 from 2,149. The advance stemmed from a 17-13 victory over La Cueva last week.
Sandia led 5A District 2 in scoring this week by notching 35 points on Eldorado.
6-foot-6 quarterback Zach Gentry of the Eagles is the league leader in passing yards this season with 863. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Charles Countee. The Manzano star has 33 catches for 450 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Eldorado and the Monarchs. Charlie Dotson's team comes into the matchup ranked 18th in the state, while Manzano ranks ninth.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Eagles and Chad Adcox's team face off next week.
There should be lots of points scored when the Matadors and the Bears face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Sandia comes in having scored 244 this season, while La Cueva has scored 167. Kevin Barker's team scored 35 points last week as it beat Eldorado.
