Basketball Recap: Kate Sand Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Century

Northfield won the last time they faced Century and things went their way on Friday too. The Northfield Raiders strolled past the Century Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 72-53. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kate Sand led the charge by going 6-for-9 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Sand a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Grace Mostad, who posted 14 points.

Northfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Northfield pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Century, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 16 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Northfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-41 win against Mankato West on the 4th. As for Century, they have also already played their next matchup, a 60-53 loss against John Marshall on the 3rd.
