Baseball Recap: Poplar Bluff Takes a Loss

Poplar Bluff was the 12-2 winner over Brookland when they last played one another back in April of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Mules came up short against the Bearcats on Monday, falling 15-9. The Mules have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Noah Spain and Dylan Hall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Spain scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Hall scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Spain is becoming a predictor of Poplar Bluff's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Bryce Dobbs, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Poplar Bluff's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Brookland, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poplar Bluff will welcome Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mules are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Brookland, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Blytheville at 4:30 p.m. The timing is sure in the Bearcats' favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Chickasaws have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
