The Escondido Charter Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Bishop's Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Escondido Charter will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Escondido Charter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Coastal Academy with a sharp 15-9 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Escondido Charter got a massive performance out of Zaliyah Jones, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits Jones has posted since back in May of 2024. Amber Rossback also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Escondido Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coastal Academy only posted a batting average of .273.
Meanwhile, Bishop's had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Eagles. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Jessica Yao made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Yao was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jayla Stafford was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bailey Brightenburg, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Bishop's pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Escondido Charter, their record is now 7-2.
Escondido Charter's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. Escondido Charter has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bishop's, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Escondido Charter continue to outrun the ball?
Escondido Charter took their victory against Bishop's when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Escondido Charter since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
