Last Friday, St. Joseph Catholic faced Jackson Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Joseph Catholic was outmatched by Jackson Academy on the road and fell 63-36. St. Joseph Catholic was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-15.
Meanwhile, Hartfield Academy had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 66-55 victory over Madison-Ridgeland Academy on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Hartfield Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Madison-Ridgeland Academy is ranked third).
St. Joseph Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 20-4 record this season. As for Hartfield Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8.
St. Joseph Catholic couldn't quite finish off Hartfield Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 73-70. Can St. Joseph Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
