Lexi Campos looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Lauren McIllwain was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Maggie Drake was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Highland Park, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Turner 13-1 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Scots needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Cecilia Knutson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Knutson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maryn Muntz, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emma Hyde, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Highland Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turner only posted an OBP of .227.
Wakeland's victory bumped their record up to 20-5-1. As for Highland Park, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Wakeland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Highland Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wakeland got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Highland Park by a conclusive 18-2 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
