The Pensacola Tigers and the West Florida Jaguars squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Pensacola Tigers had to settle for second. They suffered a rough 75-51 defeat at the hands of the Jaguars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Pensacola of the 53-48 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jatony Jefferson, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jefferson has scored all season. Nick Jones was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
West Florida's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakobe Fairley led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Fairley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dominick Nicholson, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Pensacola has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for West Florida, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-10.
Pensacola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Florida, they will head out on the road to face off against Walton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Averaging 58.21 points so far this season, West Florida's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Walton better be ready for a challenge.
