The Y Yuma put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Limon for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-33 victory at home. Y's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Y's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emma Rayl led the charge by scoring 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Carolina Ross, who scored 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Limon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jentri Marx. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Marx scored a full 42.4% of Limon's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Humphrey, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Limon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Y only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Y pushed their record up to 5-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Limon, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Y will be home for the holidays to greet Eaglecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eaglecrest is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Limon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dolores Huerta Prep at 4:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Dolores Huerta Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 294th, while Limon is ranked 83rd).
