It's been a good week for home run heroics.
On Tuesday, Kolton Brown of
Union City (Okla.) joined a list of 21 players who have hit two grand slams in one inning. In a doubleheader against Calumet, Brown belted his two grand slams in the first game, a 16-4 win, and finished with nine RBIs for the contest. He also had a home run in the second game of the twinbill.
"I did not think he would get a chance to hit a second," Union City coach Ludy Griggs told the Oklahoma City Oklahoman. "When he did, I thought this could be something special. And he's the type of kid who can hit one at any time."
The two grand slams in one inning is not a rarity in the Sooner State. The Oklahoman reported that Aaron Chalk of Chaney hit a pair in 2009 (although his feat is not listed in the National Federation of High Schools Record Book). Meanwhile Ken Edwards of Hollis-Arnett is listed by the NFHS Record Book as the first player in national history to ever accomplish the feat back in 1955. Another Oklahoman, Stan Vincent of Dewey, also hit two out in 1979.
A sophomore, Brown batted .586 last season with nine home runs and 53 RBIs.

Meanwhile in Kentucky,
Dylan Creech of
Wolfe County (Campton, Ky.) already has five home runs on the season, and his team has played just two games.
Creech had a single and two walks in his first three plate appearances and then hit a pair of home runs in his final two at-bats of a 4-3 loss to Menifee.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Creech hit three straight home runs, giving him five in consecutive at-bats over the two games.
"I've seen a lot of things in sports," said Wolfe County High School athletic director Robert Scott Creech. "But watching this kid do what he did last night was something out of this world. It was something that everyone involved will remember for the rest of their lives."
The national record for home runs in consecutive at-bats is six by six different players. Creech joins a list of 13 others, according to the NFHS Record Book, with five in a row. Two of those are from Kentucky. Jason Massey of Heath (West Paducah) hit five in a row in 1994 and Shane Andrus of Murray hit five in a row in 1999.
Creech was a MaxPreps freshman All-American last year and also made the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American Team this year. As a freshman last year, Creech set a Kentucky state record for RBIs in a season with 99. He finished the season batting .664 with 25 doubles, 11 triples and eight home runs.
Earlier this season, Austin Glorius of Windermere Prep (Windermere, Fla.) hit five home runs in one game. Last week, Frontier (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit 10 home runs in one game in a 26-2 win over Liberty (Bakersfield, Calif.).
