Columbia Academy was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Parklane Academy on Monday. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Pioneers. Considering the Cougars have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Owen Simmons made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jackson Speir was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carson Stuart, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Columbia Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
