Foothill is 1-9 against Coronado since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Foothill Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Coronado Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Foothill faced Mojave in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Foothill took down Mojave 62-47.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Foothill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zak Abdalla, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Abdalla is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Shawn Salazar, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Coronado beat Spring Valley 76-68 on Tuesday. Given Coronado's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Spring Valley is ranked 38th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coronado got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tee Bartlett out in front who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds. Bartlett is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Josiah Cunningham was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds.
Foothill pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Coronado, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Foothill hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 60.8 points per game. It's a different story for Coronado, though, as they've been averaging only 71.7 points per game. The only thing between Foothill and another offensive beatdown is Coronado. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Foothill came up short against Coronado in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 75-62. Can Foothill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
