Redondo Union is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Torrance Tartars at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Redondo Union put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They breezed past Banning to the tune of 35-6. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-6.
Redondo Union's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rocky Martinez, who rushed for 138 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Martinez's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Christian Zeno, who gained 80 total yards and two touchdowns.
Redondo Union didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Blake Wunderli and Bryson Fowler. Another thorn in Banning's side was Brock Herrera, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (1.5 for loss).
Meanwhile, Torrance strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against El Segundo by a score of 35-24. 35 seems to be a good number for the Tartars as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Gibson Turner and Ryan Wiacek. Turner had a great game and threw for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 19 passes. Meanwhile, Wiacek was balling out in the loss, throwing for 217 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes, while also rushing for 65 yards.
One reason for the win was Torrance's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. El Segundo's QB won't forget Elias Emerson anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Jacob Gomez was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Torrance, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Everything came up roses for Redondo Union against Torrance in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 35-7 win. Will the Sea Hawks repeat their success, or do the Tartars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
