Basketball Game Preview: Swansboro Pirates vs. West Carteret Patriots

The Swansboro Pirates will challenge the West Carteret Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Carteret took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Swansboro, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Swansboro was fully in charge, breezing past Dixon 50-23. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 454th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Swansboro found their leader in sophomore Addison King, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals. The dominant performance also gave King a new career-high in assists (five). Another player making a difference was Grace Jass, who posted eight points and five steals.

Swansboro was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

West Carteret has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The matchup between them and J.H. Rose didn't end well, with West Carteret falling 39-24. The game marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Swansboro will have to contain Maddie Steidl as she made an impact in West Carteret's last game. She had six points and eight boards.

Swansboro pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.4 points per game. As for West Carteret, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
