Mount Carmel's win came from a few key players Shamokin Area will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaylen Delaney, who rushed for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 67 receiving yards and one TD. His longest reception was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Another player making a difference was Michael Kimsal, who gained 97 total yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mount Carmel's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Aidan Brokenshire and Chance Swatski, who each picked up one sack apiece. Cooper Karycki got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Mount Carmel now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Shamokin Area, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Shamokin Area has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 317 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Carmel struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 220.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
