Triton and E.E. Smith are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Triton Hawks will be playing at home against the E.E. Smith Golden Bulls at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Triton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully E.E. Smith likes a good challenge.
Triton is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Harnett Central: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Triton blew Harnett Central out of the water with a 76-44 final score. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 25 points or more this season.
Ro'Mello Pegues was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 16 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmad Morris, who posted eight points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, E.E. Smith had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They secured a 58-54 W over the Wolverines.
E.E. Smith found their leader in sophomore Tre Williams, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 22 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of E.E. Smith's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Mcduffie, who had eight points.
E.E. Smith has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Triton, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Triton and E.E. Smith are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Triton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.4 points per game. However, it's not like E.E. Smith struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Triton was able to grind out a solid victory over E.E. Smith when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 61-53. Does Triton have another victory up their sleeve, or will E.E. Smith turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
