After six games on the road, Churubusco is heading back home. They will take on the Central Noble Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Churubusco suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 68-44 defeat at the hands of Angola. While losing is never fun, Churubusco can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Angola is ranked 126th).
Patty Wiggs put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Sinclair, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Central Noble's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastside.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Grace Swank, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Melissa McCoy, who scored 11 points.
Churubusco has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Central Noble, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 11-10.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Churubusco have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Central Noble, though, as they've been averaging only 27 rebounds per game. Given Churubusco's sizeable advantage in that area, Central Noble will need to find a way to close that gap.
Churubusco was dealt a bruising 60-12 defeat at the hands of Central Noble when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Churubusco, Madison Vice (who scored 16 points along with eight assists and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
