The La Jolla Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
La Jolla entered their tilt with San Pasqual with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. La Jolla took their contest on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 67-34 victory over San Pasqual. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-18.
Michael Contreras continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 29 points. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Vaz, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Mission Bay entered their tilt with Hoover with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mission Bay had just enough and edged Hoover out 56-53. Given Mission Bay's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while Hoover is ranked 535th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Jolla's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Mission Bay, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
La Jolla came up short against Mission Bay in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, falling 60-48. Can La Jolla avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
