Basketball Recap: Emily Merema Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Morning Star Academy

Unity Christian lost to Morning Star Academy back in November of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Unity Christian Knights enjoyed a cozy 51-36 win over the Morning Star Academy Mustangs. The Knights pushed the score to 43-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Unity Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Merema, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Ella Behr was another key player, going 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points.

Unity Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Unity Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Morning Star Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Unity Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against East Moline Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Unity Christian's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so East Moline Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Morning Star Academy, they will take on Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
