Northern has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Keyser Golden Tornado at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Northern scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 59-26 win over Hancock. Given Northern's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Hancock is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lydia Nelson out in front who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. Abby Nelson was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Keyser earned a 52-39 win over Hampshire on Thursday.
Northern's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Keyser, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Northern came up short against Keyser when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 56-51. Can Northern avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
