WPIAL AAAA Southeastern recap Nov. 7, 2012
Peters Township moved up to 112 from 144 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern. The Indians climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Gateway 35-19.
Woodland Hills extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Hills, 27-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Wolverines.
Mt. Lebanon's dynamic duo of Tyler Roth and Mark Buda proved tough for Butler to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roth threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns and Buda had 129 yards receiving. Mike Briercheck helped Mt. Lebanon's passing attack out by catching four balls for 72 yards.
J. J. Conn made the biggest impact on defense this week as Upper St. Clair topped Kiski Area. The 6-foot-3 junior forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
Pete Coughlin was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 60 yards on four carries as the Panthers defeated the Golden Tornado. Teammate Steve Mackowick added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
Mt. Lebanon's Roth and Troy Apke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading WPIAL AAAA Southeastern in both passing and receiving yards. Roth has thrown for 2373 yards this season, while Apke, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 50 catches for 1015 yards. Coughlin from Upper St. Clair leads the league in rushing with 483 yards.
Mike Melynk's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Butler. The Blue Devils came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 37 last week.
