The Pike County Pirates will challenge the Morgan County Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pike County easily dispatched Rock Springs Christian Academy on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Pike County fell just short of Jackson by a score of 40-38 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pirates have suffered since February 5, 2024.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kerrah Foster, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Lewis, who earned eight points.
Meanwhile, Morgan County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Red Devils as they made off with a 58-32 win. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.
Pike County better keep an eye on Jaden Young. She was instrumental in Morgan County's win, going 9 of 13 on her way to 24 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Young a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cydney Burke, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points.
Morgan County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson only posted three assists.
Morgan County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Pike County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pike County has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Morgan County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.1 boards.
