The Pickens Blue Flame won against the St. Joseph's Catholic Knights last Friday with 54 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Pickens enjoyed a cozy 54-37 win over St. Joseph's Catholic. Pickens' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Pickens found their leader in underclassman Ava Owens, who scored 18 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. The match was Owens' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Maggie Chambers was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
St. Joseph's Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evie Adams, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Caroline Mruz, who scored 10 points.
St. Joseph's Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pickens pulled down 15.
Pickens' victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pickens will face off against West-Oak at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. West-Oak will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Pickens is ranked third). As for St. Joseph's Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against John Paul II at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully John Paul II focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
