Union City is 7-2 against Hagerstown since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Union City Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Hagerstown Tigers at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Union City and 21 for Hagerstown.
Union City suffered their closest loss since December 2, 2023 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Mississinawa Valley by a score of 54-51.
Despite the defeat, Union City got a solid performance out of Luane Schoonbroodt, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 49% of Union City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Oaklee Reichard, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Hagerstown was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 49-45 to Muncie Burris.
Hagerstown's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kasiti Ferriell, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five steals. Ferriell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elly Cheeseman, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
Union City has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Hagerstown, their defeat was their tenth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-19.
Union City strolled past Hagerstown in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 42-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Union City since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
