The Ferndale Eagles waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 66-49 win over Avondale. Given Ferndale's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Avondale is ranked 507th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ferndale's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iyanna Davis, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 26 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Larry, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Ferndale's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Avondale, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Ferndale won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Novi at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. The timing isn't great for Novi: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Ferndale has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. Avondale will take on University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. University comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
