The Notre Dame Regents will square off against the Mills Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mills will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Notre Dame extended their winning streak to three last Wednesday. The Regents never let South San Francisco get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory.
U'Ilani Wells was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamille Beals, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mills hadn't done well against St. Ignatius College Preparatory recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Wildcats. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on five straight.
Kalia Woo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mills got a big performance out of Jazzy Maske, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Sofia Kwan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Mills' victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame, their record now sits at 12-7.
Mills' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mills, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will Notre Dame keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?
