Valor Christian is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Mountain Vista is on a eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Valor Christian Eagles will take on the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Valor Christian was fully in charge, breezing past ThunderRidge 41-7 at home. With Valor Christian ahead 34-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Valor Christian can attribute much of their success to Asher Weiner, who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Kirschke, who rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They breezed by Highlands Ranch at home to the tune of 48-8. Given Mountain Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Highlands Ranch is ranked 72nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austyn Modrzewski continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 254 yards and five touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes. Modrzewski is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last eight games he's played. Sean Conway was another key contributor, picking up 60 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Mountain Vista's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Austin Ayotte and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Valor Christian to 5-4 and Mountain Vista to 8-1.
Valor Christian strolled past Mountain Vista when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 49-35. Does Valor Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mountain Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
