Whale Branch enjoyed a cozy 51-32 victory over Allendale-Fairfax on Wednesday. Given Whale Branch's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Allendale-Fairfax is ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whale Branch's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Greggory Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Gilbert has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bradford Thompson, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
Whale Branch's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Allendale-Fairfax, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bethune-Bowman the next time they take the court. Whale Branch will host Bethune-Bowman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Allendale-Fairfax will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
