Teutopolis dropped to 8-3 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Casey-Westfield Warriors by a score of 16-15. If the Wooden Shoes were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Warriors when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Malea Helmink was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kera Hartke, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Casey-Westfield, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs.
On Casey-Westfield's side, Arhianna Bonds was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, Bonds posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Moore, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with six RBI and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Gyllyane Gilbert was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Teutopolis will venture away from home to face off against Greenville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wooden Shoes 4.1, the Tigers 0.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Casey-Westfield, they will head out on the road to take on Salt Fork at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
