Manchester Academy has won four straight games at home, while Washington has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Mavericks will welcome the Generals at 6:00 p.m. Manchester Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Manchester Academy's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over St. Joseph. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Fighting Irish recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
St. Joseph's batters probably weren't too happy with Brody Roberts, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (he gave up a single walk).
At the plate, Joseph Beidleman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jake Louis Paul, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Manchester Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Washington put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's sixth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They blew past Greenville Christian 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won 18 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Charley Dunn and Tri Avis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Dunn pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Avis tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Dunn went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Avis scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Washington let Doty Scott and Evan Hardin run wild. Scott scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2, while Hardin scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Hardin is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jones Roberson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Washington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for Manchester Academy, their win bumped their record up to 25-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manchester Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manchester Academy couldn't quite get it done against Washington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
