The South Central Satellites lost against the Morgan Township Cherokees back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. South Central fell 54-44 to the Cherokees. While losing is never fun, South Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Cherokees are ranked 162nd).
Several Satellites players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jay Huerta, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Welsh, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
South Central struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Morgan Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keagen Holder led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Holder hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Spratley, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
South Central has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Morgan Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
South Central will head out on the road to face off against the Oilers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Allowing an average of 54.6 points per game, Whiting has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game. As for Morgan Township, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tri-Township is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
