MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 2 Austin Westlake beats Vandegrift 70-7, will face No. 6 Katy in UIL Texas 6A Division 2 semifinals on Dec. 11

No. 2 Westlake (Austin) continues to dominate opponents this year and rolled past Vandegrift (Austin) in the UIL Texas 6A Division 2 quarterfinals with a 70-7 victory. The Chaparrals have outscored their first 14 opponents 823-107 this season and extended their win streak to 38. Sophomore running back Jack Kayser rushed for six touchdowns in the first half as the back-to-back state champs went into halftime up 56-0.

The defending 6A Division 1 state champs will face No. 6 Katy in the 6A Division 2 semifinals on Dec. 11 at McLane Stadium (Waco). The Tigers held on for 34-31 win over Summer Creek (Houston). Katy won the 6A Division 2 state title last year and have won 22 games in a row. The Chaparrals won the 6A Division 2 title in 2019.

No. 10 Southlake Carroll (Southlake) beat Allen 47-21 in the UIL Texas 6A Division 1 quarterfinals and will face No. 24 Duncanville in the semifinals on Dec. 11. The Panthers beat DeSoto 38-20.

No. 12 Jesuit (Tampa) added another impressive win to its resume with a 37-12 win over Northwestern (Miami) in the 6A semifinals. Junior running back Joquez Smith finished the night with 22 carries for 223 yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers will try and win their second state title in school history. The last one came in 1968. They will play Pine Forest (Pensacola) in the 6A championship on Dec. 18. The Eagles beat Jones (Orlando) 20-13 in overtime.

Saguaro (Scottsdale) upset No. 11 Hamilton (Chandler) 31-24 in the Arizona Open Division semifinals. Junior quarterback Devon Dampier had a big-time performance and rushed for three scores. Dampier and the Sabercats will face No. 17 Chandler in the championship on Dec. 11 at Sun Devil Stadium.

The Wolves erased a 21-7 fourth quarter deficit in the final five minutes against Liberty (Peoria) and won 27-21 in overtime. Blaine Hipa found Anyale Velazquez with 2.7 seconds left and ran in the game-tying two-point conversion to send the game to overtime. Chandler got the ball first in overtime and Hipa connected with Nason Coleman in the back of the endzone for the game-winning score. The Wolves defense got a stop and will be going for their sixth consecutive state title next Saturday.

Four MaxPreps Top 25 teams played for a state title this week.

No. 18 Thompson (Alabaster) got it started first winning its third straight Alabama 7A championship after beating Central (Phenix City) 38-22 on Wednesday at Protective Stadium (Birmingham).

Recent Utah commit Ryan Peppins was named MVP of the game after racking up over 200 yards receiving and two touchdowns. North Carolina pledge Conner Harrell left with an injury on the opening drive but came back in during the second quarter and finished with nearly 300 yards passing and three total touchdowns. Anquon Fegans, Trequon Fegans and Trevor Hardy all had an interception. 

Braylin Presley finished his high school career with four state titles. The Oklahoma State-bound running back led the Spartans to a 63-14 win over Deer Creek (Edmond) in the Oklahoma 6A-II championship. He finished the night with four total touchdowns as Bixby won its fourth consecutive state title. The Spartans also set the state record in 11-man football winning their 49th consecutive game breaking Wagoner's record of 48 they set in 2017.

Gaffney became the first team to beat No. 20 Dutch Fork (Irmo) since 2017 with a 22-19 upset win in the South Carolina 5A state championship. Gaffney outscored the five-time defending 5A champs 15-0 in the fourth quarter. Grayson Loftis connected with Suga Jefferies on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 3:30 remaining. The defense got a stop then ran out the clock to win their first state title since 2012.

No. 25 Oakland (Murfreesboro) won its second straight Division 1 Class 6A state title beating Summit (Spring Hill) 43-26 at Finley Stadium (Chattanooga). Senior running back Jordan James was named the MVP of the game after rushing for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
