The Uxbridge Spartans posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-50 victory over Oxford. Given Uxbridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Oxford is ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Uxbridge was led to victory by Ethan Mccusker and Colin Spencer. Mccusker scored 13 points, while Spencer scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Blood, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Oxford still got an impressive performance from Brady Marqoupis, who scored 26 points. That was a full 52% of Oxford's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Andruw Martinez, who scored 11 points.
Uxbridge's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points per game. As for Oxford, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Uxbridge will challenge Northbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oxford, they will head out on the road to face off against Assabet Valley RVT at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Assabet Valley RVT is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
