The Marshall Mavericks can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They strolled past Pollok Central with points to spare, taking the game 62-48. The win was all the more spectacular given Marshall's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 885th, while Pollok Central is ranked 375th).
Pollok Central's loss came despite strong showings from Jake Matthews and Darrius Sherman. Matthews scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Sherman scored 13 points along with four steals. Matthews hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Graham, who scored 11 points.
Marshall's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Pollok Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will take on Longview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Longview is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games. As for Pollok Central, they will be playing at home against Hemphill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
