North Sevier is 0-6 against Grand County since April of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. North Sevier will challenge Grand County at 2:00 p.m. North Sevier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.7 runs per game this season.
North Sevier was handed a 17-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Wayne 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted against the Badgers since April 23, 2021.
Chloe Malmgren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, North Sevier let Avery Taylor and Zoey Rhees run wild. Taylor went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Rhees scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Reagan Hone also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Grand County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Beaver, falling 7-1. The match marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Grand County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Hope Shumway gave up just two earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Grand County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaiya Moore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Grand County's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for North Sevier, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Sevier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .535. However, it's not like Grand County struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Sevier might still be hurting after the 19-9 defeat they got from Grand County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can North Sevier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
