After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northwest Christian, the Odyssey Institute Minotaur were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. John Paul II Catholic and snuck past 36-34. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to post nine more assists than your opponent, as Odyssey Institute did.
Among those leading the charge was Shelby Hunt, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now blocked two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samara Grubbs, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds and 8 steals.
Despite the loss, St. John Paul II Catholic still got an impressive performance from Isabel Sesmas, who scored 22 points along with 7 steals. Sesmas scored a full 64.7% of St. John Paul II Catholic's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Odyssey Institute's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Odyssey Institute will look to defend their home court on December 14th against Kingman at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Kingman is ranked 225th, while Odyssey Institute is ranked 227th). As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against NFL Yet Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
