Basketball Recap: Xavier Mccray Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Tohopekaliga

Poinciana won the last time they faced Tohopekaliga and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Poinciana Eagles secured a 64-60 W over the Tohopekaliga Tigers. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Tigers are ranked 458th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Poinciana's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier McCray, who posted 18 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave McCray a new career-high in points. Jahmel Hill was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Poinciana's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Tohopekaliga, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poinciana will square off against Celebration at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Poinciana is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season. As for Tohopekaliga, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Tohopekaliga Tigers duke it out with the Faith Christian Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Faith Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Tohopekaliga likes a good challenge.
