Lakeland is 0-9 against Coeur d'Alene since April of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Hawks will be playing at home against the Vikings at 2:00 p.m. Lakeland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Lakeland is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Post Falls. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since March 22nd.
Kiersten Drake made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Raygen Dutton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Vikings never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Leah Nordman, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Post Falls off the board. Nordman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abbey Linder, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Henderson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Coeur d'Alene kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Post Falls only managed two hits.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Coeur d'Alene, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lakeland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Coeur d'Alene struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakeland couldn't quite get it done against Coeur d'Alene in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
