Dan River has gone 8-2 against Gretna recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Dan River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Dan River took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Tunstall, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Trojans on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Lucy Isom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dan River's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyraleigh Karnes, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was Karnes' first of the season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Gretna finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They fell 7-2 to William Campbell. The Hawks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Sophia Brooks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Sophia Freedle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one double.
Dan River has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Gretna, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dan River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Gretna struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dan River got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Gretna by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
